GFM000_English: An Introduction to Guard Force Management: Mission, Roles and Professional Standards
The management of a guard force, whether you are a security professional or you are responsible for overseeing security related services provided by a guard force as a secondary function, requires a good understanding of the principles which drive consistently professional and appropriate security services. Understanding the mission and goals of a guard force allows leaders to form the framework within which security services operate. This framework underpins the success, or failure, of the tasks performed by guards on a day to day basis. Those responsible for leading security services, or overseeing performance monitoring and management responsibilities, must have a clear understanding of the mission and objectives of the security team, as well as the roles and responsibilities (whether stated or inferred) of different members of the security team and guard force; from manager or shift leader down to an access control, patrol, searcher or desk guards. There is also a requirement to both understand, and document, professional standards. These standards define the expectations of the security team, enable training programs to be built against these standards, resources to be procured to enable the standards to be met, and supports a system of monitoring and evaluating professional services. This course allows both security professionals, and those overseeing security services, to understand how a guard force should be focused, managed and resourced.
