Business continuity and success is reliant upon effective stakeholder mapping, assessments and engagement strategies. It is critical for leadership teams to understand the importance of identifying and dealing with both internal and external stakeholders – whether as part of normal business operations and activities, or as part of managing risks and crisis events. This includes understanding the types and importance of stakeholders, grading their salience and the associated level and nature of interaction required, defining the methods for engagement, applying the principles of positive relationship building and management (creating trust and respect), establishing authorities for interaction, and taking into account the common faults which undermine stakeholder management – as well as success strategies.
